Since the first person wouldn’t make sense here, try the Nifal. zx;a/n< is the 3 m. sg. Nifal affix. The Nifal usually imparts passive meaning.

In Genesis 22:2 you saw a Hifil imperative. Here you have a Hifil prefix with vav conversive. What happened to the characteristic h in front of the root marking the Hifil? Remember Genesis 22:3. The Hifil prefix does not have a preformative h but it does have two distinguishing characteristics.

1. The vowel patach under the prefix pronoun.

2. A “dot vowel” (hireq, sere, or seghol) under the second root letter.

Note that the marks of vav conversive  ·w: are the same regardless of the stem of the verb.

אמר: utter, say
verb, niphal, prefix, third person masculine singular

The root and prefix pronoun are familiar but the pointing is new. This is the 3 m. sg. Nifal prefix form. The Nifal affix form is distinctive because it has a preformative n as the name Nifal suggests. But the Nifal prefix does not begin with a preformative n

It is recognised by a characteristic vowel pattern.

Nifal prefix vowel pattern
